About this project
A bold piece of contemporary architecture that works the interplay of solid mass, perforation and natural texture into a facade that is both striking to look at and sensible in this climate. A dominant vertical brick volume acts as a spine and gives the elevation its proportion and hierarchy.
The exposed brick adds warmth and a timeless quality, and sets off the smooth plastered surfaces beside it. Jaali — perforated brick screens — do real work here as well as looking good: they filter the light, help the air move, and give privacy without closing the house off.
The vertically framed jaali panel on the entrance axis marks the way in without shouting about it.
